Mariela Scafati

Artist and queer screen printer Mariela Scafati (Argentina, 1973) develops a practice in which painting becomes a three-dimensional object, exploring its relationship with the body, space, and memory. Her work, marked by experimentation and collectivity, reinterprets traditional genres such as portraiture and landscape through installation.
During her residency at Collegium, Scafati explored the relationship between painting and the objects she found in the city, particularly furniture, questioning the possibilities and limits of her painting as a support, an object, or even a body, and what its extensions might be. The artist investigated materials native to the region, especially hemp ropes and natural fibers, collaborating with textile artisans.
